Wix vs Shopify - And the Next Big Thing Coming to the UK very soon!

Two monitors with black frames display the word "WIX" in a sleek, minimalist style against a dark background, creating a modern vibe.

Last week, I had one of those conversations that reminds me exactly why Digital Edge is so connected to Wix.

Tina, from Ultimate Ladies Boutique in Durham City, got in touch.

She was thinking of moving to Shopify.

Why?

She needed a point of sale (POS) till system that linked directly to her website. She loves Wix, but without that link, she was seriously considering jumping ship.

She came to me because she knew I’d have the answer… or at least know where to get it.

So, I picked up the phone to my Wix account manager. (Side note: this is not the standard Wix support – this is the kind of relationship you get when you’ve been working with Wix since 2015 and you’re one of their top UK partners.)

He told me something that made my week, Wix POS is soon to be being launched in the UK.

It’s already live in the US and Canada, and now, finally, it’s coming here!

Better still, he set up a meeting for me with the person leading the UK rollout.

That’s the kind of inside track our clients get.

You can’t buy that on a help desk ticket!

When I told Tina, she was absolutely over the moon.

No migration needed.

No losing the site she loves, and now we’ll be working together a lot more on her digital to make sure she gets the most from this new tool.

What’s the big deal about Wix POS?

If you’re running a shop, online or physical, your till system and your website have to talk to each other. Inventory, sales, promotions, all synced, all in real time.

For years, we’ve built integrations between Wix and third-party POS systems. We even rolled out our own solution for EPOS Now back in 2022. It works brilliantly, but it’s not cheap and sometimes, the integration process can be a headache.

Wix’s own POS system removes a lot of that pain.

Wix POS isn’t brand-new, it’s been available in the US and Canada for some time, as part of certain Business/Essential plans. The big news here is that it’s finally launching in the UK.

Depending on the hardware you choose (like the Essential Register), a POS plan may also apply, but in cases like Tina’s, there’s no extra subscription beyond the hardware and standard transaction fees.

Same dashboard.

Same account.

All your sales, online and in-store, managed in one place.

Is it perfect?

No system is.

Every solution creates new challenges, but this is a huge leap forward for UK businesses on Wix.

Price check: Wix POS vs Shopify

Prices are based on Wix’s existing POS packages abroad, which are already available under certain subscription plans (like Business/Essential). The UK rollout is expected to follow the same model.

Shopify, by comparison, can be a lot more expensive once you add it all up. There are monthly POS subscription fees on top of your plan cost, plus transaction fees, plus hardware, and if you want their “Pro” POS features, you’re paying extra per month, per location.

With Wix, in many cases you simply pay for the hardware plus standard transaction fees, without a stacked POS software subscription. Where a POS plan is required (such as for the Essential Register), it will be clearly outlined.

Ease of installation

This is where Wix shines.

You unbox it, log in to your Wix account, and it’s ready. No extra apps, no syncing nightmares, no wondering why the barcode scanner works on one register but not the other.

Shopify setup is also fairly straightforward, but if you need extra features, you often end up bolting on paid apps or paying a developer to get things talking.

How this changes the Wix vs Shopify debate

Before this, if you wanted a truly integrated POS system in the UK, Shopify had the edge. I’ll be honest, I’ve recommended Shopify in rare cases where a client’s physical retail needs outweighed everything else.

But now?

This levels the playing field.

For a lot of businesses, Wix will actually pull ahead:

• Lower total cost of ownership

• One system for everything, website, marketing, bookings, POS

• No need to juggle multiple providers or support lines

• The ability to get advice from someone like Digital Edge, who actually has a direct line into the Wix product team

Apple vs Android: Why Platform Comfort Matters

Here’s the thing… platform choice is a lot like the old Apple vs Android debate.

If you’re used to one, jumping to the other can be painful.

Not because the new platform is “bad”, but because it’s different.

The workflows, the logic, the way things connect, it all changes.

I’ve seen businesses move from Wix to Shopify because they thought they “had” to, only to feel frustrated when the day-to-day didn’t work like they were used to.

Likewise, a Shopify user might feel lost if they switched to Wix without the right guidance.

The new Wix POS means fewer people will have to make that uncomfortable jump in the first place.

You can stay in the ecosystem you know, love, and actually enjoy using.

Why having a partner like Digital Edge matters

Here’s the truth… if you’re a standard Wix user, you won’t get news like this until it’s public. You’ll read about it on a blog or see it in your dashboard.

But Tina at Ultimate Ladies Boutique heard about it straight from me, before launch, and will likely be one of the first to get it.

Why?

Because Digital Edge isn’t just a Wix partner.

We’re a Legend Partner, a Wix Studio Expert, and one of the most connected Wix agencies in the UK.

We’ve been doing this since 2015, building sites, custom Velo functionality, and integrations most people didn’t even know were possible.

When there’s a problem, we don’t go through the normal channels, we go straight to the decision makers.

That’s the difference between having a website supplier and having a digital partner.

Sidebar: The Hidden Value of Having “Someone in the Room”

When big updates are coming to Wix, most people find out after launch.

Our clients?

They hear about it in meetings with us, sometimes weeks in advance.

Because we’re in direct conversations with the product teams at Wix, we can:

• Give you insider updates before they’re public

• Help you plan for upcoming features so you’re ready on day one

• Push feedback straight to the people who build the tools you use

• Connect you with the right people for trials, testing, and problem-solving

• You don’t get that by sending a ticket to support. You get it by having a partner who’s already in the room.

The takeaway

For Tina, this news means she doesn’t have to leave Wix.

She can have the integrated till system she wanted, keep her site exactly how she likes it, and avoid the cost and hassle of migrating.

For me, it’s proof (again) that the relationship we have with Wix directly benefits our clients, and for UK businesses on Wix, this is going to be a very good day.

If you’re already on Wix and want to know how the new POS system could work for you, or if you’re on Shopify and wondering if it’s time to switch, let’s talk.

When you’ve got Digital Edge in your corner, you get more than a great website, you get someone who’s in the room for conversations like this.
