More than a website, a friendship with Mark and Missed a Beat...

What happens when someone walks into your office with a big idea?

Many first meetings begin with a project brief and a conversation about what needs to be done. When Mark Preston popped into our office, we quickly understood the bigger idea behind his request. He had a clear vision for Missed a Beat, and as we talked about the logo, characters and website, we could see how to bring it to life. Mark knew what he wanted the charity to become. He had ideas for the website and its characters but needed someone to help bring them to life. He left feeling that we understood what he was trying to do.

We also left that first conversation knowing this was a cause we wanted to support for the long term. The website project became the beginning of a friendship that has continued to grow alongside the charity.

Missed a Beat’s work is about helping make communities safer by installing defibrillators in places where people need them, from schools and sports venues to parks and public spaces. The charity also supports bleed control kits. Behind every installation is a simple but powerful aim - to give people a better chance when someone’s life is at risk.

We built Mark a Wix website that gives him a place to tell that story. He can share the charity’s news, explain what it is working on, promote events and help people find out how to donate or get involved. It’s become the starting point for much of the charity’s online communication.

Luckily too, the website doesn’t sit quietly in the corner waiting to be found! When Mark publishes a blog post, Wix gives him a simple way to share it on social media and bring people back to the site. He can also schedule blog posts to go live at a chosen time – always useful when there’s an event or campaign coming up.

A website Mark can update wherever he is

Mark is busy, and the work of the charity doesn’t always happen at a desk. With the Wix app, he can draft, edit and publish blog updates from his phone. If there’s something he wants people to know, he can update the site while he’s out and about, without having to wait until he’s back at a computer. Wix also manages much of the website’s technical infrastructure, including security measures and SSL protection, giving the site a secure foundation while Mark focuses on the charity’s work.

But our relationship with Mark has never been just about the website. We’ve supported Missed a Beat over the years because we truly believe in what Mark is doing. We’ve been regulars at his events, including an audience with Frank Bruno, and we’re looking forward to the upcoming evening with Peter Beardsley, Chris Waddle and Rob Lee. This year, we sponsored the Missed a Beat marquee at the Great North Run.

That means we get to see the difference the charity is making, and to share some of the moments along the way. We’ve watched Mark keep building, bringing more people into the cause and finding new ways to make his work count. He’s also made sure the businesses supporting him are part of the story, including at the Great North Run. The marquee wasn’t just somewhere for runners to gather, it was a chance to recognise the people helping make the day possible.

Why we keep showing up for Missed a Beat

We’ve gained a great deal from knowing Mark too. His energy, kindness and commitment have brought us into a community of people who care about making a difference. We’re proud to be one of the businesses standing alongside him.

A website can give an organisation a platform, but it’s the person behind it who gives that platform purpose. Mark walked into our office with a vision, and we’re glad he did. We didn’t just get to build a Wix website for Missed a Beat, we got a friend, a cause we believe in and the chance to keep supporting both.
